E-sport means high-level, organized competitions, with the help of video games, with a management system similar to traditional sports events. Its most important aspect is that players compete with each other in a multiplayer environment, through virtual games, sometimes alone, mostly in teams. One of the most important factors in E-sport is the location and availability of the technological background. This is a special factor that greatly facilitates the participation in the sport and its spread, since anyone with the right device and internet connection can be a part of the experience.
E-sports is short for electronic sports, a form of professional competitive gaming using video games. Traditional sport, on the other hand, refers to any form of athletic activity that requires physical fitness and effort through casual or organized participation and is governed by predetermined rules.
Based on the data of a 2017 research, 94% of Internet users in Hungary between the ages of 18 and 65 have played video games with some regularity. In 2017, the smartphone was the primary gaming platform in Hungary, but dedicated gamers used the desktop computer during their gaming, as this is the most suitable platform in terms of both performance and experience.
The main difference between traditional and E-sports is that the world of E-sports is not location-specific, players do not necessarily have to be in the same physical place to play. Players can participate from anywhere in the world as long as they have an instant connection to the Internet. Spectators are also not tied to a place, so to speak, they can be part of the E-sport "game" from anywhere.
Traditional sports, on the other hand, require competing individuals or teams to be present in the same physical location and space.
However, looking at the technical equipment of the E-sport, it can be said that the so-called "gamer" PCs can reach HUF 1.5-2 million, supplemented with additional computer parts and accessories, so in terms of expenses, the E-sport requires a great deal of financial investment. Due to the growing passion for gaming, the demand for specific gamer laptops and virtual reality (VR) technologies has increased significantly in recent years due to the growing popularity of E-sports.
The popularity of E-sport, a relatively new form of playing in competitive sports, can be seen in several ways. On the one hand, the number of people watching e-sports has increased significantly, reaching more than 240 million people in 2019, and on the other hand, the income from competitions is increasing every year. The world of traditional sports is a completely different world, where sports like American football, baseball, basketball are the most profitable sports leagues in the world.
The most critical factor in the success of E-sports is the passion of the players, tournament organizers, game developers, investors and, above all, the fans. Traditional sports, on the other hand, already exist in the ancient world, so their importance and significance simply cannot be disputed. Sport is an important part of our lives and will remain so in the future.
